Matt Kemp
Matt Kemp
THINK BLUE - Dodgers
It was another crazy day at Upper Deck Retail in Huntington Beach yesterday. We were lucky enough to bring in LA Dodgers Matt Kemp for a public signing and to meet the fans.
The morning started with us opening early to help with the possible crowd coming in. We sold tickets prior to the day, but knew that most of our ticket sales would be day of. The morning went smooth until we sold out of authentic baseballs and 8x10 photos for sale (not our fault we have them at cost - LOL) but we were able to still keep everyone happy and make sure they had something else to purchase like mini helmets and pendants if they didnt bring in thier own item.
Once Matt arrived he was seated in the back of the store were we do all of our signings and got to work --- if that is what you call doing something you love... you could tell this young kid (with a smile from ear to ear) was having a good time talking, taking pictures and signing for his followers/fans --- he spent several minutes with a little girl as she asked if he could hear her screaming at the games since she attended most if not all of them seated behind him during games... Matt told her to wear something so he would be able to pick her out of the huge crowds attending the games... so she said she would wear pink!
I was able to talk to Matt during the signing for a while - He gets my stamp of approval for a just all around nice guy - and you could tell he meant it. You could also tell there were a few guys that were dragged to the event (by thier girlfriends or wives) to check out the young stud!
Till next time...

I've met a bunch of MLB players before, but never in my life has any one player spent so much time with his fans, and that says alot about him as a person. The little girl that is mentioned in this blog is my daughter. She met him last year and has loved him ever since. Not once at this signing did he make her feel like she had to stop talking to him or make me feel like I had to take her away. This young guy is the most humble player I have met in all my years of meeting players. I truly hope he comes down for another signing cause I would definitely pay to see him again. Just to see the smile on my little girl's face...it was worth every penny. Thanks UpperDeck!!
