I was a little disappointed that he was no longer there at the time I arrived.
I sat through traffic for a little over an hour and a half got there at 5:55pm *(when the signing was supposed to be until 6:00pm)

I was extremely satisfied with the whole process. The autograph fees where fairly reasonable, the staff were friendly and helpful, and Andrew was quite approachable and friendly!

Overall it was a great time. Upper Deck put on a great signing as always. Andrew was very friendly and nice to talk to. Now get some more of the lakers that haven't been there before. Thanx again!!!

Wish I could say all went well, however, the guy that was sitting next to Andrew was extremely rude and arrogant . Come to find out, he doesn't even work at UpperDeck. I really hope UpperDeck saves their reputation and doesn't allow this guy to ruin any more of these events with his cocky unprofessional behavior! He acts this way at every event and for whatever reason, UpperDeck allows him to. I don't know what the connection is with him and the store, it's very disappointing because the real "staff" is great.
Andrew was awesome! -

UPPER DECK STAFF EXTREMELY HELPFUL. GREAT
CUSTOMER SERVICE. IM VERY GLAD ANDREW WAS ON
TIME AND WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE PICS. HE WAS
VERY NICE GUY. PRICES WERE OK. ANDREW
WAS ABLE TO PERSONALIZE ANYTHING. I HOPE UPPER
DECK BRINGS MORE LAKERS LIKE MAGIC, AND KAREEM. -
#6
What are the odds Upper Deck can bring in soild role players from the 90's and early 21st centry? It would be cool to get rick fox, shaw or van excel to come in.

Everything went great! Ample time allowed to take pictures (no standup posing) so the line moved very smoothly. UD staff always friendly and responsible. In response to recent opinion (#4)... the guy sitting next to ABynum has been 'pushy' in past signing events. We are not cattle, we are fans that wait patiently outdoors sometimes over 1-2 hours so there's no need to hastily herd fans past the table. If there's a restriction on time, then sign the athlete for a longer time-window in the first place. This will diminish the need to 'hurry' people when they get to the front. Now... to hear that guy doesn't even work for UD... THAT'S unnerving. Oh well. Whenever UD directly hosts an event everything is PERFECT ~ buying tickets, getting refunds, answering questions and allowing quick (5-second) pictures w/ the athlete. Thanks UD.
-

It was a good time. As other have pointed out, the guy sitting next to Andrew is a douche who was herding people through as fast as possible and when I don't want to damage the 16x20 I paid 25 for it's a bit unnerving.
I would like to request even bigger names for future signings. Gasol/Kobe/Magic etc. The bigger the better. Price isn't an issue. -

The Bynum signing was a pretty good experience. Unfortunately, some people had problems with the guy up front but I would like to point out that he was nice and did not rush me. I would like to give a special thanks to UD for allowing me to take a picture with him. I'm sure many people would agree with me on this issue: UD Please listen--There are many fans that drive many miles, sitting in traffic, for an opportunity to meet with these athletes (and we thank you for giving us that opportunity). As others have pointed out, some people wait for hours. Rushing us takes away that experience. Also, a picture with the athlete means a TON to us fans (especially in this Internet age with Facebook, etc.). All it takes is a few seconds (and I know it adds up) but with organization, comes speed. For example, you had one gentleman that helped with the line, and another that assisted some with their cameras, etc (HORRY signing). I think that helped expedite the process without sacrificing the "experience." Just take a look at Magic Johnson's book signings, for example. He has multiple people doing a specific task to help speed up the process. Yes, a lot of people but he still manages to take a quick photo, handshake/fistbump, and sign multiple items. On a side note, many of us wait in line FOR HOURS with our hard earned money, yet we see some of the same people (a few of the younger girls friends with people there), over and over, cut in front of us and get that first opportunity to meet the athletes WITHOUT waiting in line. UNFAIR! Overall, pretty good experiences. Great experience with the Horry signing (pictures allowed and we were NOT rushed). Positive experiences such as that will keep us coming back. Negative experience with Artest signing where we were rushed like CATTLE and could NOT even take a picture. Athletes for future signings? KOBE!!!! ODOM!! KOBE! PAU!!! MAGIC!! KOBE! KAREEM!! KOBE! GAIL GOODRICH! KOBE! JERRY WEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think having Bill Sharman at UD would be a good opportunity to have him promote his book as well. PHIL JACKSON!! Last but not least:
KWAME BROWN! (just kidding). -

I would like to know what UpperDeck's reaction is to all this feedback! I understand the athlete is paid for a specified time table, and some may not want their picture taken, however, people still pay for them to be there also, by buying an autograph ticket and we deserve some common courtesy also. Remember UD, its the experience not the autograph we seek!
-
#11
Opinion #10 ~~ it is EXACTLY the experience! Very good point.

Like I said earlier, this was a very good experience. Although I been to many of Upper Decks signings, I haven't had any problems with that guy who sits next to the athlete, well the dude for the Bynum signing, he's usually pretty good when I go thru. But I do agree that he does seem to rush things thru. From what people have said here, he does not work for Upper Deck. I mean anyone can do that job right? I mean how hard is it to hand a certain color sharpie to the athlete appearing? Any of us fans can do that. Also it would be nice to hear from Upper Deck, especially the manager William about what he thinks of the responses here. As for other athletes, yes more Lakers would be nice, current and retired. Magic, Kareem, Cooper, Byron Scott, Jerry West, Norm Nixon, and any other older lakers I can't think of. How about current Lakers we haven't seen, maybe some of the lower end lakers, maybe a group signing. How about DJ MBenga, Sasha V, Luke Walton, Gasol... I know Kobe is pushing it, but would be high on my wish list. Thanx for reading!

In response to # 12, haven't you heard, William is no longer employed with UD and it seems to be a very sore subject with the "new manager" at even the mere mention of his name.
I had never had a bad experience at UD and I have attended many signings there, with the exception of the guy who was sitting next Drew at this signing. He always seems to be in that "I'm better then you" mood. He has no people skills whatever.
I'm really happy that they allowed you to take a pic with Drew as that would have been an awesome experience for anyone, something we all would have loved to have done. But many of us asked and were told flat out "NO" by the NON UD employee. So I wonder what exactly makes him decides who he will allow to take a pic with Drew and who he decides can not.
I personally preferred the way William ran things when he was in charge. He is a people person and very customer oriented and does not crack under pressure. He never treated us like cattle. He always took the time to talk with the fans and kept us updated on everything that was going on and would come outside several times to make sure we were all happy.I did not see this of the new manager.
What I also took notice of, was the time they allowed the NON UD employee as well real UD employees, to spend inside with Drew getting his stuff signed and taking photos and certainly wasn't herding himself out quickly.
Drew showed up at exactly 4:00 sharp, right on schedule, they then took him inside to get their photos with him and their items signed and then with what little time was left, is when we are allowed to come in (at 4:30)where we are told NO pics with Drew and we were then rushed out like the building was on fire. That kinda sucks (especially in this economy) when some people come from afar and stand in line for hours and spend lots of money to get the chance to meet Drew and get his autograph.
Perhaps management should have booked him a little earlier and paid for that extra time themselves and not do that on our dime, or they could have had him sign their stuff after he was done with his real fans, the paying customers !
Hopefully, UD really takes the time to read our comments and take these concerns into consideration when planning their next event, regardless of who the Athlete.
This might solve "rude guy" from ruining our experience.

I hadn't had a bad experience at Upper Deck until the Andrew Bynum signing. You guys think you had it bad?? We passed Tim (very nice) first, who checked our receipts and matched our items, but once we got to the table, the inexperienced guy that thought he was the famous one there for the signing, counted & considered all of our items as 1 size, when we had purchased small, medium & large tickets, and wouldn't let our balls be signed and then accused us of not paying for a picture, even though you can't get it unless you pay for it, and ripped it out of our hands AFTER it had already been signed. He then yelled across the store "MAKE THEM PAY FOR THESE! THEY DIDN'T PAY." As Bynum looked on in horror. I even have the pictures of what transpired to match my story. In one photo, he's even pulling the Sharpie out of Bynums hand. If you would like to see these pictures, leave your email address and I will send them to you. Talk about embarrassing!! We had them sign our balls so we could get away from this uncomfortable situation, and deal with it at the register. The guy at the register (I didn't get his name, but he was very friendly and helpful) counted our items to our receipts and realized the guy behind the table made a mistake and all of our items were paid for in full. He called Bob, the new manager, over to help out, but even after we explained the situation, because of what the inexperienced guy sitting next to Bynum had already told him, you could tell he really did not believe us. How is it that Tim was able to calculate our items with the sizes, and that guy wasn't?? He finally got our picture back and had our small item signed. What's sad is that you could tell Bob was upset with us instead of the other guy, and WE were the customers!!
I am VERY sad that William is no longer with UD. He was always very friendly and wanted to make sure we were all happy from the time we got in line, to the time we left with our autograph. He would have NEVER have let this happen.
After this experience with the new UD manager and the guy next to Bynum, I don't think I will be going back for anymore signings unless they....
BRING BACK WILLIAM!!
UD asks for feedback, but they ignore tweets that they receive regarding the signing. And when called out on ignoring them, they respond with, "I'm sorry you felt that way. Please leave feedback here." and they direct you to this site. Things need to change before they lose even more customers. -

The Bynum signing was one of the better signings I've been to by Upper Deck (besides the Robert Horry signing of course)!! The A-Train was definitely a chill guy and even acted like he wanted to interact with the fans and take pictures, but of course, the customers were still rushed through for what reason????????
I HAVE TWO MAIN ISSUES. FIRST, THE SAME "GENTLEMAN" SITTING NEXT TO BYNUM AND IS PRESENT AT ALL THE UD SIGNINGS THAT SUFFERS FROM NAPOLEON COMPLEX. I was in the store getting my tickets while Bynum was signing for UD and taking pictures with the representatives. What pisses me off is that two girls that knew "NAPOLEON" did not have to wait in line and received their autographs first ... ANDDD got to take pictures with Drew. I wonder if these girls even know who Andrew Bynum is or what position he plays.
SECOND, I HEARD UD REPS SAYING BEFORE WE WERE ALLOWED INTO THE STORE THAT NO POSING PICTURES WOULD BE ALLOWED YET DREW SEEMED MORE THAN WILLING TO INTERACT AND TAKE PICTURES WITH THE FANS. After "NAPOLEON" rushed me as usual, I saw other people after me taking pictures with Bynum and not being rushed. If we are going to pay $50-$70 for an autograph AND the athlete doesn't seem to mind about taking pictures then what is the big deal?????????????? -
#16
I was actually happy with the Bynum signing because the autograph came out good. In the past athletes have either screwed up an inscription or signed with a streaky pen (i know I should bring my own).
The people that run these things need to realize that the product is the experience and the product and they should be focused on delivering a good overall product. It sucks that if the auto comes out bad you cannot get another one. You are paying for a autographed item, I think you should get a good autographed item. As far as the guy next to Bynum, haven't really had any problems with him but that's just me.
Future signings should be any and all Lakers, more southern california guys in maybe the off season a la Brandon Jennings and Demar Derozan and some baseball guys, maybe Adrian Gonzalez.
Anyways, overall I was happy. Hopefully Aaron Brothers does a good job framing it. -

1. Please do not rush us like cattle. If time is limited, please limit the amount of tickets sold.
2. Please don't use the advertised time for customers for your own employee's benefit. Please have the player come early to sign promoter's products/pictures, etc or have the player do it AFTER "paying customers" are done.
3. If pictures are allowed, please have a designated person to help out with that. Pictures help enlighten the "experience" that brings customers back over and over. You had employee do that in the past and it has been helpful. If pictures are not allowed, please make sure it really is at the player's request (hard to believe when employees are doing along with the TWO GIRLS THAT DO NOT WAIT IN LINE).
4. AS NOTED ABOVE, PLEASE DON'T HAVE THE SAME TWO GIRLS CUT IN FRONT OF THE CUSTOMERS. THIS IS VERY ANNOYING AND PISSES US OFF!!!!!! Many of the customers are noticing this. This is NOT professional. If they are to have their picture taken and get their autographs, PLEASE, after the paying customers. After all, if it weren't for us and our money, there would be no event.
5. Wristbands would help along with numbers. Unfair that people's friends and family (>5) cut in line at the last minute. Some people wait for hours. Just a suggestion.

IM VERY GLAD ANDREW TOOK HIS TIME ACTUALLY
SIGNING HIS AUTOGRAPH AND NOT SCRIBBLELING OR
PUTTING HIS INITIALS LIKE PAST ATHLETES. THE
GENTLEMAN NEXT TO BYNUM WAS NOT PUSHY THIS TIME
BUT IN THE PAST HE HAS. US FANS REALLY
APPRECIATE BEING ABLE TO TAKE PICS W/ THE ATHLETES.
EXAMPLE. I LOVE RON ARTEST BUT THAT EVENT WAS
HORRIBLE. WE WAITED A LONG TIME FOR HIM TO ARRIVE.
WE COULDNT TAKE PICS. AND HIS AUTOGRAPH WAS HORRIBLE
AS HE JUST INITIALED HIS NAME R.A. THATS NOT A
AUTOGRAPH. WE WERE RUSHED THE WHOLE TIME. IT WAS BASICALLY 5 SECS WE GOT TO SEE HIM AND NEXT IN LINE PLEASE. -

My name is Bob Nevarez and I am the manager at the Upper Deck Store in Huntington Beach. It has come to my attention that you have some concerns on the signings that occur at our store and I'd like to let you know that we take into account what you have to say. I am a fan myself of many athletes and I know that these experiences are very important to me and that I have many expectations of how I would like the signing to go. So I can say that I've been in your shoes and have stood on the other side of that table just like you do when you stand in our store. First of all we'd like to thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to stand in line for hours awaiting these events. We would also like to thank you for the hard earned money that you're spending to acquire these autographs. We do not take that for granted and appreciate you visiting our store for these events.
We cannot change any negative experiences that you may have had in the past at our signings but we can improve on our future signings. Without your feedback, both positive and negative, we cannot make improvements. You've taken the time to provide us your feedback so obviously this is very important to you and we do not take it lightly. A lot of the signings that are held at our store are run by Slam and Jam Sports. But there are signings, like the one this past weekend, that are our signings. I hear your concerns on how you are treated by both our staff and Slam and Jam's and will address this with them and to my staff. Bottom line is that the events are held in our store so we will have a final say on how the staff, both ours and theirs, treat our customers.
In the future we will try to run the transition from standing in line inside the store to the athlete smoother. Unfortunately, sometimes at the request of the athlete posed pictures are not allowed. If they do allow them that is a bonus. But we will make more of an effort to allow time for pictures of the athlete signing your items with you in front of the table. If this means slowing the line down then we will have to do that. There are going to be athletes who are more accomodating than others. But I can say that most are in between the two. Because of this there are going to be times when requests to athletes are going to be made and not be given. We have to respect their wishes and comply with what they want to and don't want to do.
But I feel that the main concern here is to provide you with a memorable and enjoyable experience. I can guarantee that this will be addressed and improvements will be made. I will speak with Aaron from Slam and Jam Sports and relay all of your concerns. If for any reason you feel that we are not doing what should be done on our end please find me immediately and let me know. Unfortunately, we're not going to be able to please everybody 100% of the time but we need to make a better effort to improve the percentage that we have now. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and hopefully the time that you spend at the events held at our store will be enjoyable. -

A big thanx to Bob for getting back to us. It does help alot to know that since he is the new manager, that he will do his best to make things better for us the fans and customers in future signings. So is this guy who was with Bynum the other day from Slam and Jam? Looks like it since Bob is going to talk to Aaron about it. I've always loved everything about Upper Deck since they came out 20 years ago. A top knotch company with excellent products. Also having a Upper Deck store around is great too. I expect the signings to be top knotch as well. Because it is the experience more than the autograph, like people have commented before. I'm hoping that since they have a new manager, that Bob will continue the good ways that were presented in past signings. Meet and greet the customers outside occasionally, let us know whats going on if an athlete is gonna be late. Communication is the key to events there. To let us know whats going on, is very helpful. As for the response to # 13, I didn't know William was no longer part of Upper Deck. I was wondering why I didn't seem him anymore. Oh well, he was nice and past signing went well when he was there. I only hope they go well in the future. If not, then they will lose me as a customer. Thanx again for listening.

Nice to see Bob finally responded, however, did you notice that he did not comment on allowing (cattle herder) guy to bring in what he wished were his own groupies? That's what people mentioned here and have always mentioned at the actual signings. It makes him feel powerful to let these girls in right in front of the huge line. Don't you think if his two girls were true Laker fans, they would shell out the money and stand in line for an event like this? Or perhaps he could even purchase a ticket for them, since he wants to seem like such a stud getting them inside without standing in line. Or please, at least be a little more discreet when sneaking them in.Don't have them pass the crowd and announce you getting them in, like he has in past signings.(Bet him can get them free court side seats at Staples).
Or here's an idea, spend ten bucks and have UD printed on two t-shirts and make believe they are employee's and then once they get their free pics and autographs, they can leave the shirts there for the next event and walk out like the general public.
Also, when Bob mentioned us having to respect the player's decision whether he wants to take a posed pic or not, maybe Bob should tell rude guy, that when Drew did say yes and started to lean in with the fan, rude guy snapped at him and said "Andrew you can't do posed pics". I think rude guy should also respect Drew's decision also and not make him look like a child in front of his fans, since now your saying it was the players choice. And anyone who has ever attended an event like this, knows that when a celebrity/athlete doesn't want to be bothered with pics, they bring along THEIR own people to insure it doesn't happen, ie:Derek Fisher. Some celebs are very strict about that, but Drew definitely was not.
Bob kept mentioning Aaron even though Aaron wasn't putting on this event, because of past complaints fans had with Aaron. But even Aaron isn't as rude as (cattle herder)guy and I though Aaron was pretty rude. But there may be a connection with rude guy and Aaron.\ Rude guys job of handing the pen and having the ball, pic etc., ready to sign to the player, didn't work to well either. You'd think since he has been at all these events that he would have paid more attention to where the fan wanted the item signed on the ball , then worrying about what was paid for or not. If he wanted to be a cashier, he should have traded places with the guy at the cash register. Kevin is usually at these events and he wasn't there this past weekend and although he doesn't work directly for UD, he usually is helping with pics, pen colors and makes sure the ball isn't signed upside down like mine was by Drew and where all the other players had already side it going the correct way.Kevin is awesome at that and has a great personality, he chats with everyone there and really makes the fan's time there enjoyable.

I echo many of the comments made by loyal UD costumers! My overall experience would have been more pleasant if I could have taken a picture with Drew. Drew seemed more than happy to pose for pictures, but the guy sitting next to him did not allow that to happen…at least for me. However, many other costumers/fans were allowed to pose for pics with Drew. It is disappointing to see that guy now helping out with signings. My first encounter with him was in July at the D-Fish event. I arrived over 4 hours early and he told me that he was reserving spots in line for friends. Turns out he had 13 people cut in front of me…had more than enough time to count! As if that wasn‘t bad enough, he completely ruined my son’s experience at the Artest signing. Ron was posing for a picture with my 4 year old son and that guy jumped in front of my camera! My son talked about taking a picture with Ron for weeks leading up to the event and ended up crying the entire drive home (Ventura County-~ 90-120 mins commute) from the event. That experience really scared him and I wish UD would make it up to him. I love the signings that UD and Slam and Jam coordinate, but a more organization would be nice.
-
#23
Thank you Bob for responding. I agree with David (#21) on the groupies (same girls that CONTINUOUSLY cut in front of paying fans). Please, Bob, would you care to comment on this issue?
-
#24
Thanks again upper deck. Andrew bynum was so nice, I really like that kid. I dont like being late, but laker fans make being there at 330pm for a 4pm signing late. I was like the 200th signature or something like that and Andrew still made the autograph nice, right on the sweet spot, and took a pic with me. The staff to me had good balance between letting people take pics and keeping the line moving. Its wasn't cheap, but upper deck adds a lot of value to mementos with probably the best authentication around, so I don't mind as much. Had good sports talk with cool fans in line. All around good times!

It seems like I’m not the only one disappointed with Bynum’s signing. The sad part is that it was not UD staff who ruined this experienced but a person who does not even work there. This guy always seems to have an attitude with everyone and is always rushing every signing. The first bad experience I had with this guy was at Fisher’s signing. Not only did he allow people (I’m guessing his friends) to cut the line but I also heard him making comments about the fans that were there. He seems to think that just because he was getting all these items signed he was better than us. He doesn’t understand that to many of us getting an autograph is a hobby and not a job. To my luck he was also at the Artest’s signing. When it came to my turn to have my basketball signed he just took it out of my hand and handed the ball to Artest. I didn’t even get to say a simple “hello” to one of my favorite basketball players. Next thing I know some random guy hands me my ball and that was it I didn’t even get to meet him. Then to top it off he was also there at the Bynum’s signing. What I don’t get is why does it seem like this guy is always running things when he is a nobody. He seems to be more like UD’s pet and just because he’s behind the table he seems to put himself at the same level as the athletes. If he’s ever there helping out at another signing I wont make the same mistake. I will just ask for a refund.

William was a great manager. I hope he got a
better and more rewarding job than working at
the UD Store! Anyone have a picture of the jerk-
off rude guy who was sitting with Bynum. I want
to go to the Sapp signing but if I see that same
rude guy there, i will also turn away and leave.
UD doesnt deserve to have customers if that guy
is working these signings! Especially since the
prices can be outrageous -
#27
Could you do like a photo opp like the Tristar shows do? I rather just pay someome to take my picture and not have to worry about getting rejected or not by the player. The photo would just be taken before the signing and less stress for everyone
-
#28
The Bynum signing was great. Andrew was very pleasant, and unlike some others, I did not have a problem with the guy sitting next to him. I also would like to see other Laker role players if possible. Rick Fox would be great.

#26 - We got balls: yes, I have plenty pics of
him, NOT because I wanted them, but because I was
with "#14 dissappointed fan", when she went
through that horrible experience with him. You can can literally re-enact what happen in these pics, down down to him ripping the pen out of Andrew's hand
so he couldn't sign anymore of our PRE-PAID.
Give me your e-mail address and I'll send you a
pic. -

i feel bad for you and #14. sounds like Bynum is a sweet young man. too bad UD can't control their staff.
thanks -

Thanks to the feedback on here, I'm boycotting Slam & Jam. I've been going to signings for 25 years. The things that I hate the most: people taking cuts, people with a bad attitude, overpaying.

I saw #14 trying to explain her story to the staff about the "Napoleon" guy while I was next in line. This probably made him act even worse since i was about to go up.
Like everyone else here, the guy sitting next to Bynum ruined it for me. My friend and I were getting ready to go up and they took our bballs to prepare for Bynum. As Bynum signed my friends ball, I snapped a photo for her. The "Napoleon" guy pushed my ball to Bynum in a hurry to sign and I didn't even get a chance to ask him where to sign the ball (smaller autograph since it was going to be a team signed ball). Since Bynum signed my ball before i even got to the table, I walked up and tried to get a picture with Bynum. The "Napoleon" guy started yelling out "Come on people, let's go lets go! Next Next Next. We don't have all day!"
In the end no picture was taken because the guy next to Bynum was rushing us. I am still excited that I got to meet Bynum and got his autograph. But, I am overall VERY DISAPPOINTED (especially since it was my first time) due to the RUDE guy next to Bynum. The UD staff was great and I hope they do not bring that guy back. I did not pay $$$$ to be treated that way. -
#33
I think it is very funny that everyone keeps complaining about the same guy. I saw him at the Bynum signing and yes he was very rude. However, I stood next near him at the James Worthy signing a few weeks agao at the kia dealership, and he wouldn't shut up. He allowed friends to cut in line, brought 10 items to be signed and talked about all the players he personally knows and how important he is in the world of autograpghs. I hate to say this, but he is very cocky and a jerk. He doesn't care about anyone but himself and his own experience. Please UD never allow this guy back!
